Meet the team

Henry and Denise are a husband and wife team providing home eye tests in the Amersham area. They are both registered optometrists with national roles in the eyecare sector and have nearly 40 years combined experience between them.

Henry Leonard BSc (Hons) MCOptom

Optometrist

In addition to running the home visiting practice in South Bucks, Henry is the Head of Clinical and Regulatory at The Association of Optometrists (AOP) and co-chair of the UK Domiciliary Eyecare Committee. Since qualifying in 2003, Henry has worked in a variety of clinical settings and currently serves as Clinical Governance Lead for Buckinghamshire Local Optical Committee.

In his role as Head of Clinical and Regulatory at the AOP, Henry is involved in drafting clinical guidance for the wider profession. He is a media spokesperson, and has been interviewed on live national television for BBC News and Sky News, and on multiple national and local radio stations on a range of topics including driving and vision, children’s eyecare and how smoking affects eye health. He appears regularly in local and national print media and has attended parliamentary roundtable events, giving presentations to MPs on vision and driving.

Denise Leonard BSc (Hons) MCOptom Prof Cert Med Ret

Optometrist

Since qualifying in 2005, Denise has worked mainly in hospital practice, and was previously Principal Optometrist at Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust (Stoke Mandeville, High Wycombe and Amersham hospitals). She is currently a Clinical Adviser to the College of Optometrists (a professional body) and Optometric Advisor to the General Optical Council (the opticians' regulator).

Denise has a Professional Certificate in Medical Retina and worked for many years in the Macular Suite at Amersham hospital, helping to treat patients with Age-related Macular Degeneration. She currently works as a Specialist Optometrist at Oxford Eye Hospital.

Denise has also been involved in chartiy work; she is a past Trustee for Autism Bucks, and she and Henry previously travelled to Tibet to help set up an optometry clinic in the remote town of Yushu on behalf of ROKPA, a medical charity working in Tibet, Nepal and Zimbabwe.
