Further information
Regular sight tests are important to check the health of your eyes, and to ensure you're seeing as well as possible through your glasses.
If you can't leave home unaccompanied due to a physical or mental health condition, you can arrange for an optometrist to visit you at home to test your eyes. If you're eligible for an NHS funded sight test there is no charge for this service.
We use portable versions of the equipment you find in a high-street opticians to thoroughly examine your eyes.
We use a computerised test chart to measure your vision accurately, and we examine the health of your eyes with a hand-held ophthalmoscope. We have an iCare tomometer to measure your eye pressure to check for glaucoma (which means there's no puff of air!), and we check your vision using a series of lenses, to find out whether your prescription has changed.
We always allow plenty of time for your appointment, so you have time to ask questions about your eyes and eyewear.
Following the sight test we'll thoroughly explain the results, and if you need any further treatment, such as cataract surgery, we can refer you to an eye doctor.
We'll also give you a copy of your new spectacle prescription, and if you want to order new glasses from us, we can show you our selection of frames and discuss which lenses would be most suitable.
If you decide to order new glasses, we make them ourselves using our own glazing equipment and we'll deliver and fit them in the comfort of your own home at a mutually convenient time.
Most of our customers are eligible for an NHS-funded sight test, which means there's no charge for the visit. If you aren't due for a sight test but you feel your vision has changed, we can usually still offer you an NHS-funded sight test.
If you are not eligible for an NHS-funded sight test, or you simply prefer to be seen privately, we can arrange a private sight test instead. The examination is exactly the same as an NHS sight test, and there will be a charge of £120 for the visit. Please note: - this service is only available to people who would find difficult or impossible to attend a high-street optician.
